Do you feel a thrill when you see an exquisite fabric? Do you feel frustrated in a dressing room when nothing seems to fit right? Do you look at fashion photos and think, "I'd love to do that?" If any or all of these apply to you then you should seriously consider learning to sew!
When you know how to sew you can touch all those fabulous fabrics as you construct well-fitting garments and release your hidden creativity to produce a closet filled with clothes that reflect your personal fashion sense.

The Marilyn Johnson Sewing and Creative Fabrics Studio offers a variety of sewing lessons for children to adults, beginner to advanced. Each sewing course encourages students to release their creativity as they master different sewing techniques; all with the goal of producing a well-fitting, well made garment that reflects the student's personality.
When students enter The Marilyn Johnson Studio for a lesson they enter a nurturing, creative space that revels in color, texture, design and encouragement. All the equipment a student will need is available in the studio from sewing machines and sergers to grid rulers and tracing wheels. To eliminate the problem of hauling projects back and forth to lessons and perhaps losing or forgetting an important piece, students are provided storage drawers for their work. To insure that students receive the attention they deserve, most classes are limited to a maximum of six (6) students. Most classes meet once a week for two hours and efforts are made to rotate between day and evening hours so everyone can fit a class into their schedule. Private lessons of one-on-one are also available. These may be one time skill specific lessons or a more long term commitment working toward a specific goal. Recently, The Marilyn Johnson Studio has also offered internship opportunities for Fashion Design students at both the high school and college level.

All classes include discussions and demonstrations on appropriate fabrics, stitching techniques, proper measurements and creative options to add personality to the garment. Pattern adjustments are made as needed for each student to insure a well fitting garment. Students will be informed of the pattern and fabric requirements for their class when they register.
